Deepening Your Practice: Rest and Restore

  • Joy Collective Yoga Studio 921 East 8th Street Sioux Falls, SD, 57103 United States (map)

Finding yourself weary, exhausted, burnt-out? Slow down, my friend, and offer yourself the healing balm of the more subtle yoga practices. Tend to the whole self with the art of slowing down through yin, yoga nidra, and restorative yoga.

Yin invites you to release tension, trauma, and restriction in the tissues to uncover a freedom in the fascial body. In stillness, there is an unfolding, an unraveling of deep seated restriction. Learn specific postures to find ease in the common trouble spots- chest and shoulders, neck pain, hip and chronic low back troubles.

The day will continue with a tender embrace of yoga nidra “yogic sleep” . Backed by extensive research, lean into the rich tradition of befriending our whole selves and letting go into the stillness within. Yoga nidra has been proven to help folks cope with daily stress, decrease depression and anxiety, improve sleep and relieve chronic pain.

Restorative yoga will round out the day’s trainings inviting the weary to settle. A remedy for the frenetic demands of the the modern world, restorative yoga is largely based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and was further established and popularized internationally over the past three decades by his longtime student Judith Hanson Lasater, PhD. Judith defines restorative yoga as “the use of props to support the body in positions of ease and comfort to facilitate relaxation and health.”

This quieter side of yoga is sure to offer you (and your students!) an antidote to the ever present stress and noise of the Western world. This day long retreat like training will not only leave you feeling nourished and well rested, but also equipped with tools and practices to use at future times to care for yourself (or guide your yoga students). Suitable for all levels of experience, yoga teachers qualify for continuing education credits.

Included in the Joy Collective Yoga Teacher Training.
